Show Opens in London!

My solo show 'Journeys Through Landscape' opens tomorrow in London with an evening preview, 5.30 - 8pm.

I'm very excited as I've already had 25 sales/reserves!!  Plus it's always wonderful just to have a show in London.

If any of you are coming along, then I look forward very much to seeing you there!

Arrived in London!

My paintings have arrived safely in London - hurrah!

The first selection will be on display at the LONDON ART FAIR, which runs from 21st - 25th January at the Business and Design Centre in Islington.  My paintings will be on Stand 52 with Duncan R Miller Fine Arts.

Here is one of them, painted on the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland in August this year.  It's at Rinagree, between Portrush and Portstewart, and you can see the faint shape of southern Ireland in the distance.

The next group will be in my solo show in February.

On My Easel...

Fuschia Hedges with Distant Fair Head (Oil on linen, 20 x 30)

I've just finished this painting.

This is from my trip to Northern Ireland back in August.  The hedges of alizarin red fuschia are very common in late summer in this part of the country.  This is looking down over the fields around Ballycastle, towards Fair Head, which is probably about 4 miles away as the crow flies.

I liked the curving, leaping shapes of the brightly coloured hedge contrasting with the gentle patchwork of the fields.

If you'd like to check it out on Google, here's the link to the exact spot HERE.

Paintings In Progress

Here's a quick look at what I'm working on at the moment in the studio.

I'm busy on a consignment of paintings that are going to be off down to London just before Christmas.  Here they are, drying around the studio.

It's good to have an eye on them so you can visualise what the show will look like and how it will read together.  Thinking about one piece leads you on to thinking about something else - so creating a show is a bit like doing a giant jigsaw puzzle.

Here's one of poppy fields near York, sitting on top of my paints cabinet along with a couple of my sculptures.

These are paintings of (at back l-r) Whitby, Torr Head in Northern Ireland, Keswick.  Front - harebells near Portrush, poppies near York.

Not much room to move!!

If you'd like to ask anything about the paintings or have any comments, please feel free.

New Paintings on Royal Deeside

I was up at Ballater on Saturday, to deliver new paintings to the McEwan Gallery on Royal Deeside in time for the Braemar Gathering this weekend.  It lovely day (if somewhat windy!) with a hint of autumn in the air.

The gallery is situated in the McEwan's lovely and unusual house, built in 1902 by the Swiss artist Rodolphe Christen, and situated on the outskirts of Ballater (near Balmoral and Crathie Church).  The house is packed with paintings, and is a gem to explore.

Here's a quick look at a couple of my new paintings on show there.

Cottages and Harebells, Northern Ireland (Oil, 10 x 10)

This is of a farm cottage on theTorr  road from Cushendun on the Causeway Coast in Northern Ireland.  The hedgerows were full of delicate little pale blue harebells blowing in the breeze.

Flowers on the Clifftop, Portnaboe (Oil, 10 x 10)

This is another Northern Ireland painting, this time of the bay of Portnaboe as you go down to the rock formations of the Giant's Causeway itself.  This is looking over to the Camel, a humped shape of rock.  On a clear day you can see the outline of southern Ireland in the distance.

Moonrise, Humber Estuary (Oil, 10 x 10)

This is something a little bit different!

There's plenty more of my work there, so if you're in the area for the Braemar Gathering, then do take a look.  You'll find a sign to the McEwan Gallery on the left hand side of the road from Braemar just before you come into Ballater.
