"Smirr of Rain near Drymen" at Auction

One of my paintings, "Smirr of Rain near Drymen", is coming up for auction in Glasgow.

The provenance of the painting is that it was sold at the Di Rollo Gallery in Edinburgh in August 2002, in my solo Festival Exhibition "The Colour of the Land".

The painting, which is oil on canvas and measures 32" x 32" with a machine-cut gold frame, is of the hills on the road to Drymen, near Queen's View.  I got soaked taking the photos (in those days with a camera with actual film in it).  It was a pretty overcast day with a constant drizzle of rain, and I thought that 'smirr' summed it up!

It's good to see it again, and it will be interesting to see how it does at the auction on Sunday 27th July.  It certainly looks as if it has increased in value over the last 12 years!

(PS - please be aware that, as I have not consigned the lot, there is an Artist's Resale Rights fee)

Va Va Froome

Wimbledon final!
Tour de Yorkshire!!
British Grand Prix!!!
World Cup!!!!
Sporting dilemma!!!!!
Not enough televisions!!!!!!

I had the opportunity to go and see the end of Stage 2 in Sheffield, but was persuaded that several hours staring at the back of someone's neck at Meadowhall for a mere ten seconds of blurred sweaty lycra flying past,  was no substitute for missing Federer v Djokovic etc etc.

So instead it was a weekend of...

Gorse in Bloom, Camusdarach

Here's another of the paintings that have just arrived in Aldeburgh for my show next month.

It's really summery, so thought you might like to have a look.

The show opens at Thompson's Gallery in the High Street in Aldeburgh on Saturday 9th August.  I've got my frock!

Amazing What You Can Find on the Internet...

...one of my paintings on a tote bag on AMAZON.

How utterly bizarre!!
I should point out that it has nothing whatsoever to do with me, and isn't something that I have given my permission for in any way.

Nevertheless, a tote bag with "Farmland, the Peak District" can be yours for $14.34, with the design printed on both sides, two sturdy rope handles, magnetic clasps, and internal storage space for small supplies.  Wow.  How could you resist??

Actually, please do resist.

A Celebration of Glasgow

Here's my drawing of the War Memorial at Bearsden Cross (read more about it HERE)

War Memorial, Bearsden Cross, mixed media 28 x 16

This is shortly going to be part of a very special show called 'A Celebration of Glasgow', with over 200 paintings on exhibition this summer during the two weeks of the city's Commonwealth Games.

The artists were given a broad brief to depict Glasgow in all its forms as part of a celebration of the city, its buildings, culture and history.  So it will be very interesting indeed to see how this has been interpreted by everyone when the show all comes together.

It runs from Saturday 19th July to Sunday 3rd August 2014 at the LEMOND GALLERY.

Also there will be my painting 'Shipbuilding on the Clyde', which I'm particularly fond of, and which was last exhibited at the Maclaurin Art Gallery in Ayr when it was selected for their open exhibition.  It shows HMS Duncan under construction, and I will also be showing a pastel study of the scene in the same exhibition.
